Easy Therapy, Mobile we come to you

December 11, 2018easytherapyFitnessRehabilitation
I began my Physiotherapy career in the hospital. It didn’t take long to realize that as a profession, a physiotherapists’ skill-set can assist all walks of life with their ailments. The primary role of a physiotherapist in the hospital is to ensure mobility safety for all patients.
The guidelines of a hospital require that a patient’s release is dependent on a physiotherapy to decide if they are able to maintain their mobility, improve it or slow down any mobility regressions. They are gatekeepers responsible for ensuring the patient is safe during their stay in the hospital but more importantly, that they can return home safely. For example, an elderly individual can come into the hospital after experiencing a fall. The Doctors’ job is to make sure all medical aspects are cleared and that the patient is set up for success in their physical recovery.
However, the Physiotherapist will ensure the patient can regain their strength to be able to safely return home. In addition, the goal is to assist the patient through education and exercise to make sure the patient is more aware of their fall hazards so as to prevent future falls.
Despite how much the Canadian healthcare system prides itself on prevention, unfortunately, the priority is not always on prevention for our aging population but rather fixing a problem after it occurs. It is evident that our health care system lacks to provide support programs that will result in long-term results, but rather invests in programs for quick solutions to justify their investments.
This is where mobile Physiotherapy can significantly assist our healthcare system. With mobile services, such as physiotherapy, we can assist seniors and the general aging population to maintain and sustain their mobility and independence. We want to ensure reduced risk and trips to the hospital for physical related ailments. In addition, mobile physiotherapy may assist patients to return home faster and avoid extended unnecessary stays at the hospital. Often the Physiotherapist is responsible for contributing to the patients care to deem them physically safe to return home.
It is important to note that there are times where a Physiotherapist is borderline unsure if the patient is safe to go home. However, with mobile Physiotherapy services the hospital physiotherapist can feel more confident in their decision to discharge the patient knowing that a trusted colleague can follow up with the patient in the comfort of the patients’ home. Because a patients’ exposure to unwanted diseases and infections increases with every additional day spent in the hospital. Mobile services such as physiotherapy not only opens up more space a Hospital Physiotherapists caseload but speeds up the recovery of the patient.
